Association of Nurses in AIDS Care Selects Elsevier as Publishing Partner

Article

Elsevier, world-leading scientific and medical publisher, is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care, the leading professional organization for nurses involved in caring for people with HIV/AIDS.

Starting in January 2005, Elsevier will become publisher of JANAC: Journal of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care. The journal will continue its bimonthly publication schedule, with Richard L. Sowell, PhD, RN, FAAN, serving as editor.

"This is an important and exciting time in HIV/AIDS nursing. We have realized dramatic improvement in the care and treatment of HIV over recent years. However, even greater challenges in responding to this global pandemic lie ahead," says Sowell. "We think our new relationship with Elsevier will help to consolidate and strengthen JANAC's place as a resource for knowledge, education and professional support for nurses and other health professionals working with persons with HIV/AIDS and/or at risk for infection."

JANAC serves as the worldwide forum for nurses involved in HIV/AIDS care. It provides a single source for authoritative, interdisciplinary information on clinical care. Recent research has addressed topics such as the impact of self-care on patient outcomes, factors affecting safe sex behavior, and cardiovascular issues related to HIV medications.

In addition, JANAC provides insights into the complex social and political environment facing people with HIV/AIDS. Recent special issues have featured perspectives on topics such as quality of life and worldwide access to HIV/AIDS care. JANAC also serves as an important source of support and continuing education for HIV/AIDS nurses.

Subscribers will have full access to each issue on the new journal website, www.janacnet.org. The journal will also be accessible through Elsevier's institutional subscription service, ScienceDirect.

"We're looking forward to working with our new publishing partner," says Adele Webb, PhD, RN, ACRN, FAAN., executive director of ANAC. "Through superior editorial support and publishing services, Elsevier will help maximize our publishing program's accessibility and value to our membership, and to our international audience of HIV/AIDS nurses."

"As the only nursing journal dedicated to HIV/AIDS, JANAC occupies a unique place in a critically important area of nursing practice," says Nina McElroy, executive publisher of nursing journals for Elsevier. "We at Elsevier are pleased and proud at the opportunity to support ANAC in its mission of serving this dedicated group of nursing professionals."
