Britain Finally Free of Foot-and-Mouth

PARIS-This week, officials from the Paris-based International Epizootic Office (OIE) declared Britain free of foot-and-mouth disease, some 13 months after the outbreak began.
International trade sanction keeping British dairy and meat from European shelves can now be lifted. An estimated 4 million animals were killed during this latest outbreak of the highly contagious disease. Both the lack of sales and the slaughtering caused billions of pounds of loss for British farmers and the government.
