Healthpoint Launches Oasis Burn Matrix

Article

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Healthpoint, Ltd., a market leader in pharmaceutical products for skin and soft tissues, has announced the nationwide availability of the Oasis Burn Matrix, a product that provides a supportive environment to allow healing of second degree and superficial burns.

Oasis Burn Matrix complements the Oasis Wound Matrix line of products marketed and distributed exclusively by Healthpoint and manufactured by Cook Biotech.

"Oasis Burn Matrix sets a new standard for the management of donor sites as well as for second degree and superficial burns," said Dwayne Dixon, Healthpoint Tissue Management marketing director. "It's a new, specifically designed option for patients suffering the effects of serious burns."

Oasis Burn Matrix is based on SIS technology, a naturally derived, extracellular matrix created from the submucosal layer of porcine small intestine. The submucosa provides strength to the intestine through a complex organization of structural and functional proteins and other molecules that form a three-dimensional matrix. Submucosa is extracted in a manner that removes all cells but leaves the complex matrix intact.

Such a natural matrix supports the body's healing process by providing an acellular scaffold that accommodates remodeling of host tissue.

"This biomaterial combines remarkable strength and flexible handling," said Dixon. "Features like increased thickness may allow application for an extended time. As application frequency decreases, less pain may result since repeated dressing changes are often increasingly painful for burn patients."

Other Oasis products are used for the management of partial and full- thickness skin loss injuries from surgical and trauma wounds; autograft donor sites; pressure, venous, and chronic vascular ulcers; diabetic ulcers and abrasions.

Since its inception in 1992, Healthpoint has established a national presence in the research, development, and marketing of branded pharmaceuticals, over the counter drugs, and medical devices for the tissue management, dermatology and surgical divisions.
