Hyginex Awarded Patent for Innovative Wearable Tech

Hyginex, creator of a wearable hand hygiene improvement system, has been awarded a patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Hyginex has created a wristband technology solution that helps correct hand hygiene behavior in real time and on an individual level. Hyginex collects accurate data to help staff clean their hands more frequently and for a longer duration.

The patent, granted on Jan. 30, 2014, broadly covers wearable technologies that collect information on individual's hand hygiene activities. Hand hygiene activities include frequency of hand hygiene events and hand motion to ensure appropriate duration of these events. The patent also covers sensors on soap and sanitizer dispensers that interact with Hyginex wearable technology, and it includes functions that provide reminders to users when they need to clean their hands.

"By obtaining this important patent, Hyginex wearable technology can further its mission to save lives and become the gold standard in hand hygiene improvement solutions," says Hyginex's chairman Dr. Bahram Nour-Omid.

Proper hand hygiene has been proven to be the most effective way to prevent healthcare associated infections that lead to more than 100,000 patient deaths annually in the U.S. The Hyginex wristbands have been proven to improve hand hygiene behavior in healthcare facilities by providing real-time reminders to staff members to clean their hands before touching patients. The Hyginex wristband technology also records highly accurate data that leadership can use to build stronger patient safety programs.

Restaurants are another important market for Hyginex's smart wristband technology because infections like norovirus (caused by food contamination) can easily be spread to patrons from restaurant workers' hands. Hyginex is determined to keep consumers safe by improving hand hygiene habits. Hyginex's new restaurant hand hygiene improvement system will be available late February 2014.
