Materials Management Microsystems and Picis Announce Co-Marketing Relationship in Response to Hospitals' Needs for Streamlining Sterile Processing and Perioperative Information Management

MEQUON, Wis. and WAKEFIELD, Mass. -- Materials Management Microsystems, Inc. and Picis, Inc. have established a working relationship to co-market and supply healthcare facilities with fully integrated sterile processing and perioperative information management. Under this collaboration both companies will develop an interface between their respective Sterile Processing Microsystem and CareSuite's OR Manager system.

The system's interface offers customers the value of increased quality assurance, communications and accountability between sterile processing and surgical services, and overall cost savings to the facility. Clinical benefits of the interface include advanced tracking of sets and instruments directly to surgical patients, which is extremely valuable in cases where infection control is critical. Additionally, customers will realize functional and financial benefits by having both applications share the same data and desktop. The flexibility of both systems offers customers the opportunity to define specific interface features as required to meet departmental needs.

SPM, a comprehensive instrument and equipment tracking system, provides sterile processing departments with solutions to asset management functions associated with inventory tracking, monitoring and load control documentation of sterilization processes, managing staff productivity levels while improving accountability, managing instrument repair and replacement costs, streamlining department functions, and identifying opportunities for cost savings while continually improving the quality of care.

"Microsystems' customers have experienced tremendous success in managing the functions of a sterile processing department using SPM, and have had similar results in their efforts to proactively support the needs of their customers in surgical services. The interface with Picis' OR Manager offers our customers in sterile processing a more comprehensive approach to addressing supply and demand and establishing a thorough quality assurance program," states Ed Becker, president of Microsystems.

Picis' OR Manager is a comprehensive operating room management system that automates every major task within the perioperative department, including surgical scheduling, preference card management, perioperative documentation, supply management and billing. OR Manager is part of Picis' CareSuite product line, the only solution in the industry that delivers total perioperative automation today.

"The integration of OR Manager with SPM will help clients improve the quality of patient care, streamline tracking and save time," said Brian Graves, director of marketing services at Picis. "We are excited to bring these benefits to Picis clients."
