National Mosquito Relief Program to Provide Funds Toward Mosquito Eradication Efforts in High-Risk Areas

CINCINNATI -- Frontgate, a direct marketing company, has established the National Mosquito Relief Program to assist local communities, departments of health, local zoos and various other organizations in eliminating mosquitoes, the deadly carriers of the West Nile Virus.

Through the program, Frontgate will be donating at least $50,000 worth of Mosquito Magnets to the local and national organizations with the most need for the products.

"Many communities are overwhelmed with the task of finding the best ways to eliminate mosquitoes in their areas," said Paul Tarvin, president and CEO of Frontgate. "We have the only safe and effective method used to eliminate mosquitoes and we want to make every effort to help those responsible for mosquito control in their areas."

The Mosquito Magnet is reportedly proven through scientific studies and field tests. It was used by the U.S. Coast Guard to reclaim its Bahamian station that had become uninhabitable due to swarming mosquitoes -- six traps captured 1.5 million mosquitoes in six days.

The U.S. Army and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also used the device where recent outbreaks of malaria had occurred. Out of all of the traps tested, the Mosquito Magnet caught the most mosquitoes -- three times as many as the next most effective trap and over 13 times as many as some of the other traps.

The Mosquito Magnet uses a standard 20-pound propane tank to emit a warm, moist stream of carbon dioxide that pests mistake for the exhaled breath of their warm-blooded prey. As the insects approach the source, they are vacuumed into a net where they dehydrate and die. The technology uses no chemical pesticides, so insect populations never develop immunity.

Frontgate is already working with several national organizations to eliminate mosquitoes in certain areas and to help prevent the spread of the West Nile Virus. To help meet the increased demand in the wake of several mosquito-borne disease outbreaks, Frontgate has also launched a companion program to offer advanced mosquito abatement technologies to communities and select not-for-profit organizations at a substantial, unadvertised savings.
