CINCINNATI - The Long45 Endocutter, a laparosurgical device with a shaft 4 inches longer than other endocutters, was recently announced by officials at Ethicon Endo-Surgery.
Ethicon Endo-Surgery, a Johnson & Johnson company, reports the device allows easier access during laparoscopic weight loss surgery, such as gastric bypass. The Endocutter staples and divides tissue simultaneously during such procedures.
Gastric bypass, where the surgeon creates a small stomach pouch with a stapling device, is the most common surgical procedure performed to treat morbid obesity.
