The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) announces that ASTM International, formerly known as the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), is currently considering a new standard for isolation gowns. Since many infection preventionists frequently wear isolation gowns and instruct others about their use, their input is essential to helping the ASTM committee identify the specific content of a new standard.
To help with this project, infection preventionists are encouraged to complete a quick survey by Oct. 14, 2011. The results from this survey, as well as progress toward the development of a new isolation gown standard, will be monitored and shared with infection preventionists through the APIC Practice Guidelines Committee.
