NORCROSS, Ga. -- Regent Medical, a global leader in powder-free surgical gloves and skin antisepsis products, announced today an expansion of its infrastructure that will greatly increase and refocus their commitment to clinical education.
Regent Medical has named Carolyn Twomey, RN, BSN, as the new director of clinical affairs. Twomey will oversee the expanded educational arm of Regent Medical as it refines its clinical focus and broadens its influence outside traditional acute-care facilities.
These few changes will significantly increase the size and scope of our clinical education program, said Robert James, president of Regent Medical. We are leaders in the healthcare market place so we should also be leaders in the realm of continuing education.
Twomey has more than 25 years of experience including critical care and perioperative nursing, management, and education. She was nominated and accepted into Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society of Nursing in 2004 and recognized as a nurse leader for her contributions to the profession. She has held a faculty appointment at the Medical College of Virginia, has served on the Governor's Task Force on Disaster Management as the chair of the Education and Training Committee, and has won numerous awards for clinical and educational excellence. She also served eight years as a Nationally Registered Paramedic for a volunteer agency. Twomey is a member of the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) and the specialty assembly, Nurses in Business, Industry, and Consulting (BIC), as well as the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC).
Under the direction of Twomey, the Regents clinical affairs department will author continuing education programs, peer-reviewed articles, speak on a national scale and research topical issues such as latex allergies, protective barrier, occupational asthma, antibiotic resistance, surgical site infection and many others pertaining to patient and practitioner safety in todays healthcare environment. One of her main goals will be to liaise with professional organizations and introduce the value of low allergen, powder-free gloves to related healthcare industries.
Additionally, the team will continue their efforts to inform healthcare workers and industries about the value of a powder-free, latex-safe environment, non-latex alternatives, further the message from the CDCs hand hygiene guideline, and promote the significance of hand antiseptic products such as Regent Medicals Hibi line.
