The AAMI Foundation and the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists (NACNS) are partnering to present a series of complimentary online patient safety seminars that will highlight how hospitals are addressing patient safety issues related to complex healthcare technology-infusion therapy in particular.
The first seminar in this series will feature Mary Kane, RN, MS, vice president and regional chief nursing informatics officer at Catholic Health Initiatives, who will describe the implementation of an initiative to improve drug library compliance with smart infusion devices. Raising the Bar on Infusion Safety: A Patient Safety Program at Catholic Health Initiatives will take place June 24 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. EDT.
“Infusion pumps are one of the most widely used technologies in healthcare today, but infusion errors and pump failures can pose serious risks to patients,” said Marilyn Neder Flack, senior vice president of patient safety initiatives and executive director of the AAMI Foundation. “This free seminar promises to be a very interesting window into the challenges and benefits of implementing infusion therapy safety initiatives. These lessons learned can help others identify and implement similar initiatives in their own hospitals.”
Healthcare professionals with roles in infusion therapy management, such as nurses, physicians, project managers, healthcare technology professional, biomedical and clinical engineers, patient safety managers, and IT specialists, are encouraged to register for the event. The seminar is free; however, those wishing to receive CE credit will need to pay $25 following the event. This activity has been submitted to the Alabama State Nurses Association for approval to award contact hours. Alabama State Nurses Association is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
