WASHINGTON, DC-The Supreme Court ruled Monday that marijuana use is illegal for ill patients.
Many suffers of diseases causing chronic pain are upset with the 8-0 decision. Patients have said the drug helps combat the effects of AIDS, cancer multiple sclerosis and other illnesses.
Justice Clarence Thomas wrote that the drug has no accepted medical use.
There is no definitive science that the drug works or that it is better than legal alternatives.
The case is United States v. Oakland Cannabis Buyers Cooperative, 00-151.
