Garrett Hollembeak, CRCST, CIS, CHL, CER, CIC, is a dedicated health care professional with a strong infection prevention and sterile processing background. He currently serves as a system infection preventionist (IP)—medical Device Reprocessing at Bon Secours Mercy Health. Before his current role, Hollembeak worked for Cincinnati Children's Hospital's Sterile Processing Department, gaining valuable experience as a technician, instrument coordinator, and department manager.
Hollembeak holds a bachelor of science from Brigham Young University – Idaho and has completed his education in applied health with an emphasis in epidemiology. He has earned multiple certifications, including Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST), Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS), Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL), Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) through the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association, and Certified in Infection Control (CIC) through the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc.
Passionate about patient safety and health care improvement, Hollembeak is actively involved in educational initiatives. He hosts Healthcare HQ’s Transmission Control Podcast, which focuses on infection prevention, public health, and continual improvement across clinical settings. Hollembeak has been involved in presenting educational sessions about collaboration between IPs and sterile processing departments.
Hollembeak’s unique perspective, combining hands-on experience in sterile processing with his current role in infection prevention, allows him to bridge the gap between different health care departments and promote best practices in patient safety.
