The first “Green” LEED Silver Certified hospital in Dallas is known for more than just its 98 percent patient satisfaction rating, or its two consecutive Texas Medical Foundation Silver Awards it received in 2012-2013. Baylor Medical Center at Uptown is a progressive hospital that takes patient care seriously. That is why the decision was made to perform an on-site test of American Green Technology (AGT)'s Health Risk Management System (HRMS) to measure its efficacy in eliminating airborne pathogens in a real-world setting.
The HRMS is a patented lighting system that utilizes UVC technology both unobtrusively and 24/7, and has been proven 99.7 percent effective in previous clinical tests. This test was performed by Aerobiology Laboratories, Inc. who did the previous clinical testing, and guided by lab director and principal Suzanne Blevins, BS, SM (ASCP), who summarizes in the report, “The study indicates that the Health Risk Management System can produce high removal rates of nosocomial and environmental pathogens including bacteria and fungi from the air. Study also shows that the risk of infection in areas where the unit is installed would be considerably low, based on reduction in airborne concentrations of microbes. The HRMS reduces numbers on surfaces as demonstrated by reduction and control of surface concentrations.”
Chris Blevins, chief operating officer of Aerobiology Laboratories, Inc., was on site during the test and had these observations, “The HRMS is a fantastic system for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, it is very smartly designed. It’s not hard to install. The fact that it is a direct replacement for a light that is already in place in a hospital is very well thought out. It makes it easy to implement the system into a space without impacting the space itself. It’s there without knowing it’s there. That’s what I love about it. The fact that it works as well as it does is in line with how intelligently it was designed.”
Installation for Baylor Medical Center at Uptown was provided by Platinum LED Lighting.
