ECRI Institute Tackles Medical Device Cybersecurity

Article

Healthcare organizations and medical device manufacturers are increasingly concerned about protecting their medical devices and associated networks from cyber-attacks. Recent high-profile articles and alerts from the Department of Homeland Securitys Industrial Control Systems-Cyber Emergency Response Team (ICS-CERT) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has put medical device security in the hot seat.

As a result, hospitals are now asking, Is this cyber threat a big risk that needs to be addressed now? How does this impact current inventories?

To help hospitals deal with heightened concerns and questions about cybersecurity, ECRI Institute is presenting a 90-minute educational web conference, Tackling Medical Device Cybersecurity, on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at 1 p.m. ET.

The objectives of this webinar are to help participants:
- Recognize how cybersecurity can impact medical devices
- Understand FDAs viewpoint on the roles of hospitals and medical device suppliers in cybersecurity management
- Review how a forward-looking hospital implemented cybersecurity risk management and mitigation into its technology management program

Experts from ECRI Institute, the FDA, and Methodist Hospital of Southern California (Arcadia, CA), winner of the 2013 Health Devices Achievement Award, will present guidance and perspectives on the growing threats of cybersecurity. The interactive format of ECRI Institutes web conference will provide ample time to interact with the panel during the Q&A session and encourages participation.

This program is intended for risk managers, clinical staff, nursing administrators, clinical department heads, clinical and biomedical engineers, materials managers, and other healthcare professionals. Members of ECRI Institutes Health Devices System, Health Devices Gold, and SELECTPlus programs will receive this program at no cost as part of their membership, but advance registration is required.

ECRI Institute will offer live updates from the event on Twitter at #EIConf.
