Removing bioburden from the inner channels of a rongeur just got easier with the introduction of the Vikon® Quick Release Rongeur, a product of Birmingham, Ala.-based IMS.
"We saw that bioburden accumulation in rongeur channels was part of the problem, so we designed one that can be quickly opened, cleaned and reassembled," says Vikon president Bruce Hoadley. "We also addressed a critical issue for surgeons: the dulling of the cutting edge over time."
Vikons Quick Release design allows the rongeur, a surgical device used to cut bone and tough tissue, to be easily opened and fully cleaned. This eliminates the build-up of bone, tissue and bioburden that can cause sticking and jamming. Infectious bioburden is removed with each reprocessing cycle. And because the Quick Release has no loose parts, reassembly is just as quick and easy.
"Facilities are looking for common-sense approaches to the problem of Hospital Acquired Infections," Hoadley adds. "We saw that bioburden accumulation in rongeur channels was part of the problem, so we designed one that can be quickly opened, cleaned and reassembled. We also addressed a critical issue for surgeons: the dulling of the cutting edge over time."
Each Quick Release instrument is protected by the RongeurReady Proactive Maintenance Program, which ensures sharpness and performance. "Clinicians told us they wanted to focus on their patients, not the condition of their instruments. Thats the purpose of this program," Hoadley says.
The Quick Release Rongeur offers full refurbishment every 90 days during first year; extended functional life of instrument; loaner instruments and instrument customization available.
