Members of the housekeeping and laundry department at Marquette General Hospital get rid of their old uniforms in celebration of winning Cintas Corporation's Wear the Care Contest.
Cintas Corporation announces that Marquette General Hospital (MGH) in Marquette, Mich. is the winner of its 2011 Wear the Care Contest. Selected from more than 170 entries, the 85 individuals in the housekeeping and laundry departments at MGH will receive a complimentary Image Apparel Makeover from Cintas worth $10,000. In addition, a $1,000 donation will be made on their behalf to the Marquette General Foundation.
An independent judging panel selected the housekeeping and laundry department at MGHS for best demonstrating its need for an apparel program and detailing how the program would improve the satisfaction of hospital patients and visitors. The Wear the Care Contest, in its third year, recognizes the positive impact of a professional image on patient satisfaction.
"The housekeeping and laundry departments are very visible healthcare staff members," says Ellen Greer, director of housekeeping at MGHS. "Our outdated uniforms dont reflect the tremendous effort we put into our job of keeping the hospital clean. Its not a glamorous job, but its a very important job and our uniforms should reflect that. Winning this contest has boosted morale and renews the pride of our staff."
In addition to the apparel makeover and foundation donation, the team at MGH will receive an image consultation from Roberta Hughes, president of Avidere, LLC. The seminar is designed to inspire and educate staff on the importance of establishing and maintaining a professional image.
Located in Michigans Upper Peninsula, MGHS is a 315-bed specialty care hospital, providing care in 65 specialties and subspecialties since 1973. Its medical staff and employees care for approximately 12,000 inpatients and more than 350,000 outpatients a year.
"Employees who look good will feel better about themselves. This translates into a better patient experience," says Brent Schafer, vice president of healthcare at Cintas. "The housekeeping and laundry department staff at MGHS works hard at their jobs and are very deserving of this honor."
