SurgiLance, Inc., the Atlanta-based sales, marketing and distribution subsidiary of SurgiLance Pte Ltd, of Singapore, announced today that Hugh Cooper has been named Chairman of SurgiLance, Inc., effective Jan. 1, 2005. Cooper has managed SurgiLance Inc. since its inception in 2000. He has overseen the companys growth from its first dollar to the more than $10 million dollars in sales that the company achieved in the first three years.
Cooper was recently honored with a special award for his superior achievement in developing the market for the companys flagship product, the One-Step PLUS safety lancet. Group CEO, Patrick Yi, in presenting the award paid tribute to Coopers loyalty and dedication by conferring on him the title, Father of SurgiLance.
Hugh grew the company from an unknown foreign entity to a market leader in 4 years and has laid a strong foundation for a new team to expand upon, Yi said.
In his capacity as chairman, Cooper will assist the company on new business development and advise management on best practices for maintaining excellent customer service.
Effective Jan. 1, 2005, Yi became the president and CEO of SurgiLance Inc. Yi is responsible for the companys U.S. operations and remains the group CEO for SurgiLance, which now has operations in the Americas, Europe and Asia. To facilitate this change, Yi will be relocating from Singapore to join the staff at its new U.S. headquarters in Norcross, Ga. by mid-January 2005.
SurgiLance designs, manufactures and sells safety medical devices that protect healthcare professionals from sharps injury. SurgiLances One-Step safety lancet, which was introduced to the U.S. market in September 2000, achieved sales in excess of $6.3 million during 2003, a 106 percent increase over the 2002 sales of $3.1 million. The U.S. version of the product is now referred to as the One-Step Plus. The One-Step and the One-Step Plus unique pre-armed capability make it extremely simple to use. It is available with either a needle or blade, each with different depths of penetration, to provide optimal blood flow for various applications and skin types.
