1st FDA approved topical treatment
Rockville, MD-The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced the first approved topical treatment for fingernail and toenail fungus in the US. Penlac Nail Lacquer Topical Solution 8% is applied directly to the nail and adjacent skin once a day for up to 48 weeks. The basis of the solution is ciclopirox, an antifungal agent that has been used worldwide for 25 years and in the US for 17 years in the form of creams, lotions, and gel formulations.
